💞 She thinks I don't find her attractive anymore
Her body has changed shape, function, and ownership in six months, and she's checking whether your desire survived the renovation. Polite tolerance reads as confirmation of her fear. She needs to be wanted, stated out loud, unprompted — not reassured on request.
▸The physiology behind it
Desire genuinely fluctuates for BOTH partners across pregnancy — first-trimester nausea and exhaustion, third-trimester discomfort — and that's normal in either direction. The most common silent wedge is fear that sex could hurt the baby: in a normal pregnancy it can't; the baby is fully cushioned in the amniotic sac. Unspoken, that fear reads as rejection.
▸What to do, in order
- Say it unprompted and specifically — not 'you look fine.' Specific beats generic, and unprompted beats requested.
- Keep non-sexual affection flowing with no agenda attached — that's what rebuilds the bridge.
- Talk about what actually feels good and comfortable now; if either of you worries about safety, ask the OB together and retire the fear.
"You look fine." Fine is a four-letter word here.
