😭 She's crying but says she's fine

She is definitively not fine. She may not even know why she is crying. What she wants is for you to notice her distress and choose to stay anyway, without being given explicit permission.

The physiology behind it

Progesterone and estrogen surges destabilize the limbic system — the brain's emotional control room — so tears fire involuntarily, often with no identifiable trigger. Low blood sugar makes it measurably worse.

What to do, in order

  1. Sit down next to her. Never stand over her.
  2. Say: "I'm not going anywhere." Then actually stay.
  3. Offer water, a snack, or a blanket. Physical presence IS the fix — do not try to solve anything.
Never say

"Are you sure you're okay?" — or worse, leaving the room.
